Notice of Load Posting Change for Shanick Bridge

Please be advised that the load limit for Shanick Bridge, located on Shanick Road in Marmora and Lake, has changed from sixteen (16) tonnes to a triple weight posting for three different vehicle types: single-unit vehicles at thirteen (13) tonnes, two-unit vehicles at twenty-four (24) tonnes, and trains at thirty-two (32) tonnes. Signs will be in place and enforced beginning tomorrow, November 7, 2025. Shanick Road, north of the bridge, will remain open.

This change was made in light of the Municipality’s 2024 Ontario Structure Inspection Manual (OSIM) inspections, completed by Jewel Engineering, which identified Shanick Bridge as being in need of a structural evaluation. That evaluation was completed by Jewell in June of 2025, and included a recommendation to change the load limits to those listed above, which were recommended to and approved by Council at the Regular Meeting of October 21, 2025, through Bylaw 2025-58. Please note that annual operational road maintenance on Shanick Road (north of the bridge) will be impacted by this change. Snow plowing and sanding will now be completed by a 2-ton truck, grading will be completed by a road drag or small motor grader, and any unforeseen circumstances will be dealt with by the appropriate equipment that does not exceed the new load limits.

Every effort will be made by the Municipality to keep residents informed of any other changes moving forward.
