Mayor's Report for September 1, 2026
August 4th
I presided over the regular meeting of Council.
August 8th
I attended the annual general meeting of the Twin Sister Lakes Association at the residence of Paul Gill on Young Lane. I provided an update on Council activities.
At 1 :00 that day, I attended the annual Butterfly Release at the Heart of Hastings Hospice in Madoc. This is a significant fund raising event and it was well attended. The Lions Club provided hotdogs and hamburgers. Thank you to the Executive, Staff and volunteers for their dedication and for providing this great service to our communities and to those who require the services provided by the Heart of Hastings Hospice.
August 10th
CAO Connelly and I met with MPP Ric Bresee and his assistant at their request. On the Agenda, we discussed:
i) Changes to the Conservation Authority reducing the number of authorities from 36 to 11.
ii) Request for funding for #14 Stirling Marmora Road. Preparation for the upcoming shared delegation with Stirling Rawdon re #14 Stirling Marmora Road.
iii) Alto
iv) Support for Grant Applications
August 15th
I attended the 100th Anniversary Celebration of the Royal Canadian Legion and presented a certificate of congratulations on behalf of the Mayor and Council. Branch 237 will celebrate the 100th Anniversary next year.
The event was very successful and included entertainment for all ages. Thank you to President John Jenkins and the Legion executive, the sponsors, entertainers and volunteers who organized this event. A special thank you to Judy Heasman and Cathy Quinlan and other volunteers who put together the display inside the Legion. A century of history and memorabilia is displayed there.
August 16th-19th
I travelled to Ottawa to attend the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference.
I attended Plenary Programs and Concurrent Sessions each day. On August 17th I attended an invitation to a reception hosted by MP Shelby Kramp. We toured the West Block of the Parliament Buildings and met the staff who support Shelby in the legislature.
August 18th
Warden Mullen, CAO Shelley ..... , Councillors Grant Hagerman and Caroline Smith and I made a delegation to MPP Ric Bresee, Assistant to the Minister of Transportation and his staff to, once again, advocate for funding for the Stirling/Marmara Road.
August 19th
I participated virtually in a Special Closed Meeting of Council to receive the resignation of CAO John Connelly and discuss next steps.
August 20th
I attended the regular County Planning and Finance Property and Personnel Committee Meetings.
Finance Property & Personnel Committee, at that meeting, directed staff that Council will not authorize signing a Non Disclosure Agreement. Warden Mullen also stated that the Eastern Ontario Wardens Caucus had declined to sign a NDA.
As a result of decisions made in the August 19th meeting, I presided over a Special Meeting of Council to formalize decisions made in the previous meeting.
August 26th
I attended the regular meeting of the Southeast Health Unit in Kingston
August 27th
I attended the regular meeting of the Hastings County Council.
August 29th
I attended the Lion's Club annual Fish Fry. As always, the food was great and it was a great community event. Thank you to the Lion's Club members and volunteers including assistance from Havelock Lion's Club.
