Mayor's Report for August 4, 2026

July 7th

I presided over the regular meeting of Council.

July 10th

Megan and I attended and I presented a new business certificate to Mindful Crowe Lunch Box located at 2 Main Street.  Everything is made from scratch and fresh.  Thank you for bringing your business to Marmora and Lake.

July 11th

I attended the Crowe Lake Waterway Association AGM at the Curling Club.  Terry Murphy, President, chaired the meeting.  The Board of Directors presented their reports.  A great deal of discussion was had regarding the fire works, particularly the cost of the fire works and the amount of work required to co-ordinate the show.  It was discussed that the money may be better spent on water testing to ensure water quality, etc.  On behalf of Marmora and Lake Council, I thanked them for their volunteer programs and expressed appreciation for the benefit of having Crowe Lake and its residents as part of our community.  Sean Graham was elected as President for the next term.

July 13th

I presided over the Special Council Meeting to conduct interviews for the position of Fire Chief.

July 14th

I attended the regular meeting of the Governance Committee for the Southeast Board of Health in Kingston.

July 16th

I attended the launch of the Lion’s Club fund raising campaign for the new Campbellford Memorial Hospital at J.J. Stewart Motors in Norwood. The slogan for the campaign is “Together4Care.”   Follow their facebook page to see the great prizes and support their fund raising project.  The Campbellford Hospital is critical to our community and data shows Marmora and Lake are regular users. Thank you to our local Lion’s Club and community sponsors for contributing and participating in this worthwhile cause.

July 17th

CAO Connolly and I met with two Alto representatives.  Joel and Alexa provided some updated information.  The topics discussed were:

Rail corridor timeline

Crossings

Property Acquisitions

Field Studies

The details for these topics will be posted on our website following tonight’s meeting.

July 21st

Nancy and I attended the meeting of the Central Hastings Support Network Transit Meeting in Madoc.  One of the topics was altering their route to Deloro to accommodate the residents and new residents of the “Fred’s” Apartments.  They will do some research and determine if there is sufficient riders to warrant that.

July 22nd

I attended the regular meeting of the Southeast Board of Health in Kingston.

On return, I attended the office to sign documents.

July 26th

I visited the Royal Canadian Legion in Marmora Open House event to view the display to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Legion.  Thank you to Cathy Quinlan and Judy Heasman for putting together a wonderful display recognizing Marmora’s Veteran’s and their contribution to the World Wars.  There is another open house and program scheduled for August 15th with entertainment for all ages.  Thank you to the Legion and its volunteers for their contribution to the community.

July 27th

CAO Connelly and I met with business owners to discuss their plans for a future endeavour.

July 30th

I presided over a Special Meeting of Council regarding the selection for the position of Manager of Transportation.

August 4th

I presided over the regular Planning Meeting and following that we are now in the Regular Council Meeting for Marmora and Lake.
