Mayor's Report for July 7, 2026

June 16th

I attended Hastings County Committee Meetings for the Finance, Property & Personnel Committee, and the regular meeting of Marmora and Lake Council.

June 18th

I attended the regular meeting and the annual AGM for the Heart of Hastings Hospice at the Curling Club.

The Executive Director, Heidi, and staff made presentations and presented awards to volunteers. This service is an extension of our health care system in the community. Dr. Janet Webb recently received an award and recognition for her leadership and contribution to this wonderful facility and the care they provide. Thank you to all who contribute either professionally or volunteer.

June 23rd

I attended the opening tour of the new apartment building in Delora. Phil Spry and his team were present and numerous members of his family and the public were present. The common room is named after Terry Clemens as Terry was instrumental in supporting the project from the beginning. Terry was present and stayed for pictures.

The units are lovely and the building is very impressive. An official opening is scheduled for later in the fall. Some units are occupied and apparently there is a waiting list.

June 24th

I attended the regular meeting of the Southeast Health Board in Kingston. There was a media release following that meeting and it is included in the Agenda.

June 25th

The regular meeting of Hastings County Council.

June 30th

I presided over the special meeting of Council regarding the applications for the position of Fire Chief.

July 1st

I participated in the Canada Day Parade. The parade was well done with lots of participants.

A special thank you to the Lions Club for their planning and organizing the parade. Thank you to the Lions for providing the barbeque and the Penticostal Church for strawberries and ice cream. Also thanks to the other volunteers for face painting, cotton candy and to the entertainers.

Thank you to Cynthia Reid for her service as President and congratulations to Merv Taylor who has assumed the position of President. In honour of the anniversary of the Marmora and Lake Legion, the Lions Club ask them to lead the parade. Thank you to the Legion members who participated in leading the parade in the extreme heat. Thank you to all participants who made our celebration of Canada Day memorable and demonstrated such community spirit.

I was particularly proud of Marmora and Lake participation by the Fire and Rescue Services and Roads Department with our equipment.

My great honour was presenting the 2026 Senior of the Year Award to Anne McNeill. Anne has been writing a column in the Community Press and on social media keeping the community informed of Council matters and community events. My comment was "Anne says it like it is".

Anne advised that since the Community Press is no longer publishing, she will continue to write and post on social media. Anne is also a regular volunteer at the Marmora and Lake Library. Congratulations, Anne.

Thank you to Jeff Young, Parks and Facilities manager and my driver for ensuring the grounds were well manicured and that the technical equipment was set up and working.

July 2nd

A severe weather event and left most of the municipality without hydro and some road closures. The offices/facilities were closed as there was no internet, etc. Thank you to our staff who monitored the offices, posted communication and for responding to downed trees and clearing roads. Thank you to the hydro crews for restoring hydro and working around the clock so the rest of us could enjoy air conditioning again.

July 3rd

I attended the office to sign documents.
