The 2025 Final Budget Has Been Posted
The Council of the Municipality of Marmora and Lake passed the 2025 Budget at the Special Budget Meeting on Tuesday, March 25th, 2025, with an overall increase of 8.30%. The final budget has been posted on the municipal website. You can find it here.
Council was tasked with trying to balance community pressures and infrastructure requirements while keeping taxes affordable. Council ultimately reduced the draft budget by over $77,000 during deliberations on March 25th.
Total expenses are forecasted at $12.97 million, with $6.07 of that being covered by other sources of revenue. The balance of $6.90 million comes from property taxation. Half of the increase is for the capital program and infrastructure replacement.
Overall, the capital budget is $2.51 million. Major capital projects include Centre Line Road rehabilitation, from Beaver Creek Road to O’Heir Road, along with Jennison Road, from Dickey Lake Road to its endpoint, at $625,000 for both. Equipment will be replaced in the Fire and Environmental Services departments for $694,500, $325,000 is allocated for Parks & Recreation equipment and improvements, $331,000 for replacement of infrastructure at the arena, and $200,000 is being put into reserves for future bridge repair and replacement. Other projects total $334,500.
Overall, taxpayers will see an annual increase of 8.30% on their total tax bill. This is represented by an increase of $199 for the year (or about $17/month) for the average residential property, which has an assessed value of $168,000. This overall increase includes the impact of the Hastings County budget, which came in slightly lower than projected, bringing Marmora and Lake’s increase down from 8.38% to 8.30%..
