What exactly is a budget?
An annual budget is a planned itemized summary of money coming into the municipality and determines spending parameters. The council sets the budget, which prioritizes the municipality's services.
Did you know?
Provincial Government (Ontario) legislates that money coming into a municipality must equal money going out; this is referred to as a balanced budget.
Operating & Capital Budgets
The budget is our principal planning document and provides a foundation to meet our community's public service needs and make decisions on municipal infrastructure. Two components of the municipal budget are operating and capital expenditures.
The operating budget covers the cost of services such as salaries and wages, insurance, supplies, fuel, snow removal, road maintenance, park maintenance, and fire services. In addition, it provides for continued care and support of existing services and infrastructure. Day-to-day functions of the municipality are captured in the operating budget.
The capital budget represents investments in key strategic priorities for the municipality's future. It covers the costs of constructing and rehabilitating buildings, roads and parks, and other infrastructure and equipment replacement. One-time purchases are considered capital investments.

2024 Final Budget
The 2024 Budget was approved by Council at the Special Budget Meeting on April 3, 2024. Council is committed to meeting minimum service delivery standards, enhancing resident satisfaction, attracting and retaining new residents, and creating an environment for local business growth and stability, all while planning for infrastructure renewal. This is particularly challenging in years of high inflation. These priorities impacted the decisions made regarding the 2024 Budget.
Council approved an overall blended rate increase from all three tax authorities of 10.38%.
2024 Draft Budget
The 2024 Draft Budget is available for the public’s review. A public meeting is scheduled for March 19th, 2024, where you can register to speak directly to Council about your priorities in the 2024 Municipal Budget. The 2023 Budget was approved by Council at the Special Budget Meeting on March 28, 2023. It is geared towards delivering excellent service to our residents, with a focus on infrastructure.
Council approved a municipal levy increase of 8.54%.

The 2022 Budget was approved by Council by unanimous decision on March 1, 2022. Overall, the budget is geared towards delivering excellent service to our residents, with a focus on infrastructure.
Council approved a municipal levy increase of 1.88%.
Council deliberated for approximately seven hours trying to balance the needs of the municipality while keeping costs low.
