The CAO and I were invited and we attended the Round Table Session regarding the ALTO High Speed Train proposal in Madoc Township. The senior staff from Hastings County municipalities, members of the EOTA and representatives from the Agricultural Community were present. The ALTO Staff facilitated round table discussions. We were asked to provide input as to the Municipality’s concerns and what their organization could do to relieve some of the reasons for opposition.

Agenda Item 9.3 is a report from CAO Connolly regarding the ALTO Rail Project.

March 25th

I also attended the Open House Information Centre in Stirling Rawdon. It also was very well attended.

March 26th

I attended the regular meeting of Hastings County Council. (The report is in the Agenda.)

That afternoon, the CAO and I met with Dr. Shahiti and Dr. Chakr to discuss space at the Medical Centre.

March 27th

The CAO and I travelled to Etobicoke to pick up a Fire Skid donated by GlobalMedic and tour their facilities.

GlobalMedic provides emergency equipment for disasters throughout the Province. Through a training session I attended in Limerick Township, Mayor Kim Carson, Fire Chief Gregg Maxwell and Cindy Feurth introduced me to representatives of Global Medic. Limerick covers fire calls for Marmora & Lake in the north part of the Municipality. GlobalMedic was there doing demonstrations of various pieces of equipment and I was introduced to their representatives. As a result, I was invited to visit their facility and see other equipment that could be available in the event of an emergency. Side-by-side vehicles for rescue operations, generators, sandbag equipment, chippers, flood prevention apparatus, drones and numerous other items. As well, they collect outdated fire clothing, boots, etc., they repurpose it and package it to be sent to Third World countries. From my understanding, the equipment is provided in case of emergency, it can be delivered or picked up and the program is government funded. How did we not know about this? The manager is preparing more information which he will provide to the CAO. The advantage of this service is that you don’t need to purchase equipment on demand.

The fire skid will be installed in the Fire Chief’s truck. The advantage of this equipment is that it can provide fire services to remote areas and bridges where there is load limit restrictions that would prevent full size fire trucks from crossing.

March 28th

I attended the retirement reception for Kathy Farrell, Librarian. On behalf of Marmora & Lake Council, I thanked her for her dedicated service for the last five years and congratulated her on her retirement. The Library is one of our key assets and provides community programs through the dedication of the Library staff and team of volunteers. Congratulations Kathy and thank you.

April 7th

This is the regular meeting of Marmora & Lake Council.
