Mayor's Report for March 17, 2026

March 3rd

I presided over the regular meeting of Marmora and Lake Council

March 5th

I attended the Information Session regarding the ALTO Train proposal in Madoc Township.  The event was well attended and numerous staff available to discuss the details.

I recognize there is a strong opposition to the “north” route on Social Media.  There is also a lot of speculation and unverified information.  Further information will be forthcoming.

CAO John and I are registered to attend a “round table” discussion on March 24th.

March 8th

I attended the Women in Wellness expo at the Marmora Legion.  We certainly have a lot of talented entrepreneurs in our Community.

I attended the Pancake Breakfast sponsored by the Marmora Pentecostal Church and the Marmora Free Methodist Church.  The breakfast was great and there was a bake sale. Thank you to the businesses that made donations.  I understand that proceeds went to the two local schools.

Thank you to the organizers of these events and for the volunteers who work to make these events a success.

March 12th

I presided over a Special Council Meeting to discuss and debate the final draft of the 2026 Budget.  The final tax rate is 5.7%.  The meeting was attended by the department managers to answer questions and explain budget items when requested.

Thank you to Nancy Sinclair, Treasurer, for presenting an excellent budget document.

Thank you to the department managers and support staff for their input and now to implement the projects and operational decisions made by Council.

March 13th

I met with the CAO.

March 16th

I spent the day in the office preparing documents.

A reminder, there is public skating every day during March Break.  Thank you to those who sponsored these events.

March 17th

This morning, I attended Hastings County Planning & Development, and Finance, Property & Personnel Committee Meetings.

At 5:30, I presided over the Planning Meeting and Committee of Adjustment and now regular meeting of Council.
