Mayor's Report for September 2, 2025
August 5th
I presided over the regular meeting of Marmora and Lake Council
August 6th
I met with Councillor Lakatos and CAO Connolly regarding the appointment bylaw.
August 9th
I attended the annual meeting of the Twin Sisters Lake Cottage Association on Young Lane.
August 10th
I was made aware of a serious out of control forest fire in the north end of the municipality. I want to thank the MNR for successfully extinguishing the fire. Also thank you to the Marmora and Lake Emergency and Fire Services, Limerick Township and Wollaston Township Fire Services for standing ready to assist. Thank you to staff who came into the office to ensure the public was informed by providing alert and communication to the public.
August 11th
Continued attention and communication regarding the status of the fire situation.
August 16th-20th
I travelled to Ottawa to attend the annual convention of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, representing Hastings County.
I attended the following sessions: Rural Responses to Mental Health and Addiction; What can be done to end Rural Homelessness; The Plenary Programs including an address from the Honourable Doug Ford, Remarks from IESO, the Honourable Rob Flack, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness. Concurrent Sessions: Negotiating Approvals for Energy Procurement and Learning Lunches sponsored by IESO. The Honourable Stephen Lecce was the speaker. I tried to attend anything related to Hydro to promote the pumped storage project. The Minister's Forum was standing room only and priority of topics seems to be dominated by building more homes, homelessness and cost of living.
I also participated in a delegation organized by Deputy Mayor Larry Rollins, Madoc Township, to do with mental health and addictions. I attended a reception sponsored by Minister Stephen Lecce, Minister of Mines and Energy.
August 21st
I attended the Hastings County Finance, Property & Personnel, and Planning & Development Committee meetings
August 26th
MPP Ric Bresee invited me to attend a round table discussion with MPP Stephen Lecce, Minister of Mines and Energy, in Tyendinaga. Again, I prepared a package of information regarding the pumped storage project and was able to present it to the Minister.
From there I drove to Brockville to chair the regular meeting of the SEHU.
August 27th
I chaired the regular meeting of the SEHU.
August 28th
I attended the regular meeting of Hastings County Council.
September 2nd
I presided over the Planning Meeting and this regular meeting of Council.
