Mayor's Report for August 5, 2025
July 15th
I presided over the regular meeting of Marmora and Lake Council
July 16th
I attended a meeting with the Central Hastings Support Network.
This is a very significant service in our communities. They provide many services that help to keep people in their homes despite their personal challenges.
I participated and chaired a meeting with the South East Health Board with the Ministry of Health. This meeting was to advocate for funding for future years when the funding for the merger is expired.
July 17th
I attended the office to sign documents
July 21st
I chaired a meeting of the four merged health units. This meeting was to discuss the status of our individual merged units and share challenges and successes. We agreed that this meeting was beneficial and we will meet again in October. The mergers are only six months into the process and it is premature to know outcomes. Our merger is different since we merged three health units; the others merged two so some of the data is not comparable.
July 23rd
I chaired the regular Board meeting of the South East Health Unit in Belleville.
July 24th
I had the honour of representing Marmora and Lake Council to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the COPE in Madoc. COPE serves Marmora and Lake, Centre Hastings, Stirling, Tweed. The Minister Parsa, Minister of Children and Family Development attended on behalf of Ric Bresee.
Congratulations to Christine Spencer and her team for the excellent work they do and support our challenged residents while providing the opportunities to participate in community functions.
July 29th
I presided over a Special Regular Meeting of Council to consider two proposals for providing insurance services to Marmora and Lake. McDougall and Whitley Newman were delegations. Council awarded the contract to McDougall at a savings of over $100,000.00. Thank you to staff for collecting the information necessary and presenting a very informative report for Council's information and ultimately making the decision to award the contract to McDougall. If you wish to review the terms and conditions of both presentations they were included in the Agenda.
August 2nd
It was my honour to represent Council at the Fair Opening. Thank you to Polly Sprung and her team for their work and dedication to putting this event together. Thank you to all the Board Members, volunteers, vendors, sponsors, entertainers and everyone who came out to support this community event. Thank you to staff for assisting when needed.
Thank you to the Crowe Lake Waterway Association for the boat parade and fireworks.
