Public Notice: Update from Marmora & Lake Fire and Emergency Services
With the smoky weather earlier this week and concerns about wildfires, here is an update on our status in Marmora and Lake:
Marmora and Lake Fire and Emergency Services monitors conditions every day, including (but not limited to):
Recent and expected rainfall
Weather forecasts
Wind, humidity and temperature
Drought conditions
The Municipality also receives daily updates from the Ministry of Natural Resources.
All of these factors help the Municipality decide if it’s time to declare a “Restricted Fire Ban” or a “Total/Complete Fire Ban”.
Currently, we DO NOT have a ban, but we are under a “No Daytime Burning” restriction.
This means:
No open fire burning (like brush, grass or bonfires) without a permit
Cooking and heating fires are permitted between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. (7 a.m. to 1 a.m. on weekends)
If you’re going to have a fire, please have it safely. A safe cooking or heating fire looks like:
Small and manageable
In a proper firepit or ring
Never left unattended
A water source nearby - like a hose or a bucket
At least 10 feet or three metres from anything that could catch fire
Completely extinguished before you leave
We will continue to update the community. Safety always comes first.
