Public Notice: Update from Marmora & Lake Fire and Emergency Services

With the smoky weather earlier this week and concerns about wildfires, here is an update on our status in Marmora and Lake:

Marmora and Lake Fire and Emergency Services monitors conditions every day, including (but not limited to):

  • Recent and expected rainfall

  • Weather forecasts

  • Wind, humidity and temperature

  • Drought conditions

The Municipality also receives daily updates from the Ministry of Natural Resources.

All of these factors help the Municipality decide if it’s time to declare a “Restricted Fire Ban” or a “Total/Complete Fire Ban”.

Currently, we DO NOT have a ban, but we are under a “No Daytime Burning” restriction.

This means:

  • No open fire burning (like brush, grass or bonfires) without a permit

  • Cooking and heating fires are permitted between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. (7 a.m. to 1 a.m. on weekends)

If you’re going to have a fire, please have it safely. A safe cooking or heating fire looks like:

  • Small and manageable

  • In a proper firepit or ring

  • Never left unattended

  • A water source nearby - like a hose or a bucket

  • At least 10 feet or three metres from anything that could catch fire

  • Completely extinguished before you leave

We will continue to update the community. Safety always comes first.
