The 2024 Final Budget Has Been Posted

The Municipality of Marmora and Lake passed its 2024 budget at the Special Budget Meeting on April 3rd, 2024, and it has now been posted on the municipal website. You can find it here.

Council deliberated and ultimately passed the 2024 budget on April 3rd. The total Operating Budget was set at $9,991,490. The Capital Budget was set at $1,725,622. Total expenditures therefore equal $11,717,112.

Major capital projects include Centre Line Road rehabilitation at $475,000, and work on Skene Road and Jennison Road in Dickey Lake at $280,000. Major water and sewer capital projects total $124,000. The Arena and Town Hall parking lots will be repaved at $255,000, while various other facility upgrades and rehabilitation total $378,500.

Council is committed to meeting minimum service delivery expectations, enhancing resident satisfaction, attracting and retaining new residents, and creating an environment for local business growth and stability, all while proactively planning for infrastructure renewal. This is particularly challenging in years of high inflation.

Total tax dollars collected are $6,201,465, representing a year over year increase of 15.37%, or $826,042. After considering assessment growth in the Municipality, the net tax levy increase is 14.06%. After considering the recent passing of the County of Hastings’ budget and education taxes, the overall blended impact on taxpayer pockets is a 10.38% increase.

The average residential property assessed at $167,000 in Marmora and Lake will experience an annual increase on their total bill, from all three tax authorities combined, of $224.27. Nearly 80% of all properties in the Municipality are assessed at $200,000 or less.
