Today, Hydro One reached out to the mayor offering a direct point of contact should any specific questions arise. The update they provided was as follows:

Sunday evening, severe thunderstorms and heavy rain moved across the province causing damage to local infrastructure. Our dedicated crews have restored power to 39,000 customers. Damage includes at least 40 broken poles and a damaged wooden transmission structure, downed power lines along with trees and large branches causing power outages. Most of the damage is in Tweed and the surrounding area, including 20 poles along Highway 7, and the wooden transmission structure which is in an off-road swampy section.

We understand how difficult it is to be without power and we thank our customers for their patience. Customers can report their outage by texting 92887 (WATTS), through the company’s outage map and app, or by calling 1-800-434-1235. Our outage tools are updated every 10 minutes as information comes in from crews on the ground. An estimated time of restoration will be determined for each outage once damage has been assessed.

Similarly, the Insurance Bureau of Canada has reached out to the Mayor informing the Municipality that if there are residents that have been affected that require assistance or have questions about insurance, they can contact their insurance representatives or IBC’s Consumer Information Centre at 1-844-2ask-IBC or via email at ConsumerCentre@ibc.ca.

We hope all those that have been affected are safe and that power is restored to everyone soon. The current outage map looks better than yesterday, but there are still residents that are without power.
