Public Notice: Termination of Emergency

Please note that Mayor O’Neill has terminated the State of Emergency, in the Municipality of Marmora and Lake, as of July 28, 2021, at 10:00 a.m.

The State of Emergency was enacted on March 31, 2020, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and the need for the following actions:

  • To Support the Provincial Declaration of Emergency;

  • To support the Declaration of Emergency by Hastings County;

  • Taking the necessary measures to support the health and safety of our staff;

  • To support, where we can, the operations of our local member municipalities.

Under this order, the Emergency Management Control Group met as necessary to discuss various safety concerns. It made decisions surrounding facility usage, signage, health and safety protocols, etc.

An emergency is defined under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act as “a situation, or an impending situation that constitutes a danger of major proportions that could result in serious harm to persons or substantial damage to property and that is caused by the forces of nature, a disease or other health risk, an accident or an act whether intentional or otherwise” [Section 1, definition of an emergency].

Under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, only the head of council of a municipality (or his or her designate) and the Lieutenant Governor in Council or the Premier have the authority to declare an emergency. The Premier, the head of council, as well as a municipal council, have the authority to terminate an emergency declaration [Sections 4 (1), (2), (4)].

A Message From Mayor O’Neill

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our residents on your vigilance in keeping our community safe during this difficult time. As it did last year, summer tends to give us a bit of a reprieve from the problematic months spent in lock-down. Would you please continue your vigilance so we can continue with a more open community where we can get together without the fear of this disease this winter? If you are one of the vaccine-hesitant individuals, I implore you to please book your vaccine so that we do not repeat the need for severe lock-downs as the variants continue to be a threat to our open community.
