COVID-19 Planning and Communications Update

Marmora, ON – The Municipality of Marmora and Lake continues to monitor the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic as issued by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Marmora and Lake are working together to put into effect community-based measures that will protect the general population and do our part to slow the spread of this virus. We have an opportunity to support each other during this time of crisis.

We advise you to be cognizant of the sources of information you get at this time and encourage you to check marmoraandlake.ca daily for correct updates as they become available. Following discussion with Mayor Jan O’Neill and the Board of Health, Hastings and Prince Edward County has advised that they are in full response emergency measures mode. Due to this Marmora and Lake wishes to release the following information to the community:

Marmora and Lake Municipal Office

The Marmora and Lake Municipal Office will be closed for public entry from Tuesday, March 17th to Sunday, April 5th due to the concerns associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide frequent updates to the Marmora and Lake municipal website.

As a result, all meetings during the time period Monday, March 16th to Sunday, April 12th will be postponed.

Municipal staff are available by calling the municipal office at (613) 472-2629 during the reduced hours of 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. In-person business will only be conducted by appointment. Staff will continue to respond to calls, emails and to carry on the business of the Municipality to the best of their ability. Even before this official closure, we are asking the public to please refrain from visiting the office. We encourage stakeholders to use our online resources available to conduct business with the municipality.

Due to the upcoming tax installment deadline of March 19, 2020, the following options are recommended:

  • Use the locked drop box at the front of the Municipal Office (preferably cheques as cash is not recommended)

  • Online or Mobile Banking

  • Mail

  • In person appointment with Jessica Thain (space is very limited): jthain@marmoraandlake.ca or 613-472-2629 ext 2223

Marmora and Lake Buildings and Facilities

All gatherings at Marmora and Lake Municipal facilities will be postponed until further notice due to the concerns associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates to the municipal website.

The Marmora and Lake Public Library Board has directed that a closure be put in place effective immediately. They hope to re-open Tuesday, April 7th at 10 am. Please follow the Marmora and Lake Facebook page as they monitor the situation.

Marmora and Lake Staff

We encourage staff to stay calm and continue with infection control practices, such as, frequent hand washing, coughing into sleeve – not hands, and remaining at home if feeling unwell.

Any member of staff who has recently travelled is encouraged to self-isolate for 14 days and contact public health if symptoms of COVID-19 develop.

Cleaning supplies are available to staff for cleaning their personal work space.

More updates for staff will be available as the situation unfolds.

Conclusion

Marmora and Lake encourages social distancing measures as a way to minimize COVID-19 transmission in the community. This means minimizing close contact with others during the peak of this outbreak.
