Marmora Water Supply – Class Environmental Assessment
The standpipe serving the Village of Marmora is at the end of its useful life and requires substantial repairs or replacement. Some areas of the village have lower than desired water pressure owing to the height of the existing tower. A Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) study has been initiated to determine the preferred solution for ensuring a reliable municipal drinking water supply to meet existing demand and support future growth. The following water storage and supply options were considered:
- do nothing,
- refurbish and repair the existing standpipe,
- erect a new elevated storage tower, or
- erect a new standpipe.
Detailed evaluation of the alternatives has resulted in a recommendation to erect a larger standpipe at the present site and remove the existing standpipe. The project is proceeding according to the requirements for a Schedule B project.
The Class EA process includes consultation with the public and review agencies, an evaluation of viable alternative solutions, an assessment of the impacts of the alternative solutions, identification of measures to mitigate any adverse impacts, and the selection of a preferred solution.
Public input into the planning and design of this project is encouraged. If you have any comments or questions regarding this project, or would like to receive further information, please send an email before July 3, 2018 to one of the following project contacts:
