Mayor's Report for May 17, 2022

May 3rd

I chaired the regular meeting of Council.

May 4th

I attended the Hastings Prince Edward Board of Health Meeting. Bill Sherlock and Shelly Brown, Program Managers, provided an update on the Healthy Schools Program. The Healthy Schools Program is an evidence-informed program which promotes and supports student health and well-being. The impact of COVID paused some of the regular programs. The team is now focusing on next steps. As part of the Healthy Schools Program, all schools will have access to: Website-based Action Guides, the Healthy Schools Toolkit, Clinical services (e.g. oral health screening and immunization), Newsletter inserts and social media messaging and Educator Resources for Curriculum Support.

The Board of Health also approved and adopted the updated Board of Health Governance Package.

May 7th

I attended Powell Motor Sports location to officially open and present a certificate to the new business of ATV Thrill Seekers. Warden Phillips also presented a certificate to the new business operators. Councillor Donaldson was in attendance and represented EOTA. Eric Doust, Member of the Economic Development Advisory Committee attended in support of new business. I had the personal pleasure of taking a ride around the property on one of the newly acquired ATV’s. Thank you to the Iron Grille for providing snacks.

May 10th

I attended a meeting at the Aecon site with John Wright, Northland Power, Elaine Isami, Reporter/Journalist. Elaine had interviewed me early in the year to compose an article in a mining magazine. John coordinated and conducted the tour and explained the engineering, proposed construction and operation should the project proceed.

May 11th

I attended a Personnel Committee Meeting.

May 12th

I participated in the 200th Anniversary Update Meeting. The schedules of events are set, fund raising is ongoing. The silent auction has officially closed. Items were available for pick up at the Town Hall. I would like to extend a very sincere thank you to all contributors and to everyone who bid on and purchased items. Thank you to the volunteers who organized and managed the auction. You all did a great job.

May 16th

I chaired the Special Closed Meeting of Council.

May 17th

This morning I attended Hastings County Finance, Property & Personnel Committee Meeting.

Finance, Property and Personnel Committee recommended approval of the 2022 Budget Levy.

The Committee also passed a policy regarding the right to disconnect from work outside of regular working hours. In summary, employees have the right to turn off devices and employers are expected to not contact staff unless it is an emergency.

Tonight, is our regular Council Meeting.
