November 3: Mayor's Report

October 20th

I attended the Hastings County Planning and Development meeting and the Finance Property and Personnel Committee meeting. That evening I attended our own regularly scheduled Council meeting.

October 22nd

I attended the office to have my computer set up to better participate in the virtual meetings. I met with the CAO regarding Agenda items.

October 27th

I attended the Economic Development Committee Meeting. Minutes are in the Agenda. I would like to thank Jason as chair and Tammy our Economic Development Co-ordinator and the Committee members for their participation. Mark Hanley, Economic Development Coordinator for Hastings County has agreed to facilitate a special meeting to assist the Committee with identifying specific goals and objectives of the Committee and develop a plan to achieve those objectives. This is a very important Committee particularly with the survival and recovery efforts of our local business community directly related to COVID. In the coming Christmas season, there will be opportunities to do your shopping locally and support our local businesses. Tammy is also available to assist businesses in promoting or advertising their products or services.

Octa ber 29th

I attended Hastings County Council. I am pleased to advise you that his honour Warden Rick Phillips was acclaimed as Warden of Hastings County for another term. I am also pleased to announce that Jim Pine, CAO, has been offered and accepted a one-year extension of his contract as CAO of Hastings County. Congratulations to both of you. COVID continues to be a threat to our health care system as numbers increase throughout the country and the province. We are fortunate to live in an area where there are fewer cases. Let's keep it that way. Adhere to the protocol and don't let your guard down.

Please remember that November 11th is Remembrance Day and support our local Legion and honour our veterans. Although the ceremonies will be different this year, there will be no parade but a gathering at the cenotaph is planned. Money made through the sale of poppies is extremely important to supplement the costs of ongoing services to address the needs of our veterans. This year, there are bracelets available for purchase as well. On behalf of the Mayor and Council, I want to express my sincere appreciation for the service of our veterans both past and present and to thank the Marmora Legion for their service and contribution to the community.

Thank you.
