Equipment Operator
POSITION SUMMARY
The Municipality of Marmora and Lake is seeking a motivated, safety-conscious, and dependable individual to join the Transportation Services Department as a Full-Time Equipment Operator. This is a full-time, unionized position responsible for supporting the safe and efficient operation of the Municipality's transportation network through road maintenance, winter maintenance, equipment operation, roadway inspections, and infrastructure maintenance activities.

Full-time, unionized position
Forty (40) hours per week
Compensation range: $56,369 - $72,474 annually
Competitive compensation package, including comprehensive benefits and participation in the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS) Pension Plan, in accordance with the collective agreement
Participation in an on-call rotation and overtime work required, as needed, including evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays, as operationally required
KEY RESPONSIBLITIES
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Operating municipal vehicles, trucks, snowplows, and heavy equipment in support of municipal transportation services activities;
Performing road maintenance activities including grading, shoulder maintenance, ditching, culvert maintenance, brushing, patching, road repairs, and roadside maintenance;
Conducting winter patrols and performing snow plowing, sanding, salting, snow removal, and other winter maintenance activities;
Conducting equipment inspections and routine preventative maintenance activities;
Assisting with roadway, bridge, sign, street lighting, and infrastructure inspections;
Installing and maintaining civic addressing and 911 signage;
Maintaining daily activity logs, inspection records, and maintenance documentation;
Performing duties in accordance with applicable legislation, municipal policies, health and safety requirements, and the collective agreement.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
Secondary School Diploma or equivalent;
Valid Class D Driver's Licence with Z endorsement, and an acceptable driving record;
Minimum two (2) winter seasons of experience operating a tandem, single, or tri-axle plow truck equipped with wing and sander;
Minimum two (2) years of experience operating heavy equipment, including graders, excavators, loaders, backhoes, or similar municipal equipment;
Knowledge of municipal road maintenance practices, winter maintenance operations, and safe equipment operation;
Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills; and
Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and work overtime, as required.
Preferred
Valid Class A-Z Driver's Licence;
Previous municipal roads or public works experience; and
Traffic Control or related safety training.
Conditions of Employment
The successful candidate must provide:
A satisfactory Criminal Record Check;
A current driver's abstract satisfactory to the Municipality; and
Proof and maintenance of all licences and certifications required to perform the duties of the position throughout employment.
Working Conditions
This position involves regular outdoor work in varying weather conditions and frequent operation of trucks, snowplows, heavy equipment, and other municipal vehicles. The successful candidate must be available to work overtime, evenings, weekends, statutory holidays, and participate in an on-call rotation as operational requirements dictate, particularly during winter maintenance operations and emergency response situations.
