Fire Chief
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the CAO, this position is responsible for managing and maintaining the ongoing operations of the Municipality of Marmora and Lake Fire Department and serving as the Municipality’s Community Emergency Management Coordinator (CEMC). The position provides leadership and oversight for fire protection services, emergency response operations, fire prevention activities, training, inspections, emergency preparedness, and departmental administration.
The role ensures compliance with all applicable legislation, standards, and municipal requirements while effectively managing material, information, financial, and human resources to protect public safety and support emergency preparedness activities within the Municipality.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
High School Graduate
Ontario Fire College training
Community College Diploma in Fire Fighting or other related studies considered an asset
Minimum five (5) years related experience as a firefighter with at least two (2) years in a Fire Captain capacity is an asset
Other related certifications and designations are considered assets
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
Direct the activities of all volunteer reporting personnel to ensure timely achievement of departmental and municipal objectives within established policies, procedures, and operational practices.
Act as primary municipal contact in the event of an emergency within the Municipality.
Direct and manage fire service operations and emergency response activities by developing departmental policies, guidelines, standard operating procedures, and incident command systems to maintain operational effectiveness and public safety.
Develop and maintain relationships with municipal departments, emergency services, regulatory agencies, and external partners to identify common goals and support coordinated service delivery.
Ensure compliance with the Fire Protection and Prevention Act and municipal fire service requirements through annual inspections, municipal risk assessments, and life safety studies.
Prepare annual operating and capital budgets by reviewing prior budgets, gathering supporting information, conducting cost-benefit analyses where required, and preparing budget submissions for CAO/Deputy Clerk review and Council approval.
Act as the Municipality’s primary contact for emergency management planning and response.
Compensation & Benefits:
The Municipality offers a competitive salary based on education, experience, and qualifications. The current annual salary ranges from $87,659 – $104,355 (Class 10).
