Reminder: Changes to Council Meeting Schedule for 2026

The first meeting of Council for the new year will take place on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at 5:30 p.m.

At its meeting on October 7, 2025, Council directed staff to change the Council meeting schedule so that Planning, Committee of Adjustment and Regular meetings of Council are all scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of every month, excepting January, July and August (each having one meeting each). Council also directed staff to amend Procedural Bylaw 2024-74 accordingly and bring it back for Council’s approval.

At its meeting on December 16, 2025, Council approved Procedural Bylaw 2025-68, which includes the following update regarding meetings of Council:

Planning, Committee of Adjustment (as needed) and/or Regular Council Meetings will be held on the first and third Tuesday of each month, beginning at 5:30 p.m., in the order established here, or as decided by Council, with sufficient notice to be given by the Clerk.

What does this mean? When there are planning matters to discuss, the Planning meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m., adjourn and move right into Committee of Adjustment (as has been done in the past), as needed, and then move right into Regular Session upon adjournment of Planning/Committee of Adjustment. When there are no planning matters requiring Council consideration, Planning meetings will be cancelled (as they have been in the past), and Regular Session will begin promptly at 5:30 p.m.

For the January 20th meeting, there will be a Planning meeting and Committee of Adjustment. Planning will begin at 5:30 p.m., and both meetings are likely to be very brief, with only one item on each agenda for Council’s consideration. This means the Regular meeting will begin very shortly after 5:30 p.m., when Committee of Adjustment is adjourned.

Please note that this meeting time change does not affect the agenda deadline! If you wish to provide a letter to Council to be included on an agenda, or participate in a delegation to Council, you will still need to submit your materials to the Clerk no later than noon on the Wednesday preceding the scheduled meeting. For the January 20th meeting, this means you must have materials submitted by noon on Wednesday, January 14th.
