Municipality of Marmora and Lake Receives $10,000 Hydro One Recovery Grant
On June 16, 2025, Hydro One Inc. announced the 12 First Nations and 38 municipalities that will each receive up to $10,000 through the Ice Storm 2025: Recovery Grant – Marmora and Lake is one of those recipients. These grants will support local relief and recovery efforts after the widespread ice storm that left severe damage across parts of Ontario this past spring.
During the weekend of March 28, 2025, a powerful ice storm severely impacted communities across Ontario, including the Municipality of Marmora and Lake, with damaging winds, freezing rain, and extensive power outages. The Municipality was profoundly affected in multiple areas by falling trees and branches, which caused significant damage to power lines and property, along with continuous accumulation of rain, flooding from local rivers and lakes, and several road closures.
One of the Municipality's most popular attraction areas, Booster Park, was severely affected by the storm. The costs incurred for the Booster Park clean-up included the hiring of professionals to safely remove unsafe limbs and trees that may create additional damage to Booster Park. This project initiative will safeguard the municipally-owned property, beach, and park space for public use. The $10,000.00 Hydro One funding will help tremendously, contributing to offsetting the overall cost of mitigating damage and safety concerns.
The damage caused by the ice storm was widespread and the cleanup continues. “Marmora and Lake is very grateful to Hydro One for their generous support,” said Jan O’Neill, Mayor, Marmora and Lake.
During the storm, the Municipality provided assistance to residents without power through warming and charging stations at the Tourism Centre and Arena (with showers available at the latter), access to potable water at the Fire Hall, free sand and sandbags, and free clean brush drop-off at the Landfill.
The Municipality of Marmora and Lake is very grateful to the Hydro One employees who worked tirelessly to restore power to the Municipality and across Ontario, and for the Ice Storm 2025 funding opportunity.
