Crowe Valley Conservation: Flood Warning Cancelled, April 11

The FLOOD WARNING for the entire Crowe Valley watershed has been CANCELLED effective 11:00 am, 11 April 2025 and is replaced with the following Flood Watch, effective immediately.  The Flood Watch will be updated 16 April 2025 or as conditions warrant.

FLOOD WATCH

Water levels and flows have peaked from their highs and continue to recede at a steady slow rate.  However, the levels still remain above normal on most lakes, especially in the southern portion of the watershed.  This would include Cordova Lake, Belmont Lake, and Crowe Lake.  The flows of Beaver Creek, the North River and the Crowe River, which are the main tributaries of the Crowe watershed, continue to remain considerably higher than normal.  Fortunately, current flows on Crowe River have receded at a steady decline of approximately 10 cubic meters per second for the past 48 hours.  This downward trend is expected to continue for the weekend and into next week.

Forecasted rainfall on Friday the 11th of April is not expected to have an impact on any portion of the watershed.  The watershed should be able to absorb the predicted rainfall.  Additional rainfall predicted on the 14th of April combined with the remaining snowpack in the northern reaches of the watershed may slow the receding trend temporarily as the increased water input from rain and snow makes its way through the system.  Provided the rainfall totals do not exceed the predicted amounts significantly, the watershed will continue to move toward its normal seasonal conditions.

Residents are advised to continue to respect the power of fast flowing water and the cold water conditions.  Due to these persistent conditions, please inform children and keep them away from these dangers.  Boaters should also avoid locations of high flows, especially near dams that are passing high volumes of water.

THEREFORE, THE CVCA URGES EVERYONE, ESPECIALLY CHILDREN TO STAY AWAY FROM ALL DAMS, WEIRS, HYDRO GENERATING PLANTS, BRIDGES. CURRENT CONDITIONS ON WATERCOURSES CAN EASILY CREATE DANGEROUS SITUATIONS CAUSING HARM OR DROWNING ACCIDENTS LEADING TO FATALITIES.

Although the CVCA office will be returning to normal operational hours (8 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday) effective immediately, CVCA staff continues to monitor flows and levels daily and are monitoring current conditions closely and this Flood Watch Statement will be updated Wednesday the 16th of April or as conditions warrant.  If there are any questions or concerns, contact Tim Pidduck, CVCA General Manager or Neil McConkey, Water Resources Supervisor at 613-472-3137.  The CVCA includes portions of the municipalities of Trent Hills, Stirling-Rawdon, Marmora and Lake, Havelock-Belmont-Methuen, North Kawartha, Wollaston, Limerick, Tudor and Cashel, Faraday and Highlands East.
