Emergency Preparedness for May 24, 2022

At 1:30 p.m. the Emergency Management Control Group met to discuss the ongoing clean-up throughout the municipality. Unfortunately, many of our residents and cottagers are still without power.

Dylan Adams, Manager of Transportation Services, reported that the area they had been focused on in Lake Township is passable for small vehicles or by foot. However, Hydro has now told them to stand-by until clean up of damaged poles and wires has been completed. As a result, many roads in Lake Township will be open to local traffic only while this work is being done.

Portable generators are widely used as a home backup power source. However, many people are unaware of the issues that can arise from an improper installation, and notably, the dangers linked to backfeeding. To learn more, please read this blog post.

Unfortunately, this is one of the most significant storms the Province has dealt with, and Hydro crews are working tirelessly to address the damage. Please prepare for a lengthy outage to be safe.

Quick Facts:

  1. There are outlets in Memorial Park and on Forsyth Street between Highway 7 and Madoc Street. If you need to charge devices, you can use these outlets.

  2. There is potable water at the northeast exterior corner of the arena.

  3. The landfill site will waive all brush drop-off fees. Please do not put the brush in bags.
