Flood Watch Issued for Marmora and Lake

MARMORA AND LAKE - The Crowe Valley Conservation Authority has issued a FLOOD WATCH for the entire Crowe Valley watershed which includes the Municipality.

The CVCA says “predicted rainfall in the next 72 hour period, coupled with a saturated watershed and rapidly melting snowpack” to the north has the potential to increase flooding conditions in low-lying areas.

Precipitation is expected to begin Wednesday evening and will be coupled with warm temperatures, causing rapid snowmelt.

The result will be “additional pressure on the already saturated Crowe watershed and it’s tributaries,” says CVCA. Water levels on Crowe River and Beaver Creek are expected to rise.

“Municipalities, emergency services and individuals in flood prone areas should be prepared to take the necessary steps such as sandbagging to fight potential flooding.”

Increased flows and levels will also put additional pressure on beaver dams and could lead to unexpected failures and flash flooding causing damage to roadways.

The CVCA is urging everyone - with emphasis on children - steer clear of dams, bridges, riversides and hydro generating plants to avoid the risk of injury or drowning incidents.

Sand bags and sand are available at the Marmora and Lake Fire Department, 5 Matthew Street.
