Community Development & Communications Officer

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting directly to the CAO, this position supports the Municipality’s strategic priorities through leadership in community and economic development initiatives, corporate communications, grant development, tourism support, and emergency management coordination. The successful candidate will work closely with Council, municipal departments, advisory committees, local businesses, community organizations, and regional partners.

The successful candidate may also serve as the Municipality’s designated Community Emergency Management Coordinator (CEMC).

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Post-secondary education in communications, marketing, business, public administration, or a related field

  • Minimum three years of related experience in community or economic development, communications and grant-writing

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • AMCTO programs or other relevant certifications are an asset

  • Experience in emergency management is an asset, or willingness to complete required training for CEMC designation

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, Adobe, G Suite, social media platforms, website management (e.g., Squarespace)

  • Familiarity with municipal software is an asset

  • Demonstrated experience preparing reports and supporting Council or senior leadership is preferred

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES (selection)

  • Support the development and implementation of community and economic development strategies aligned with Council priorities and the Municipal Strategic Plan.

  • Serve as staff resource to the Economic Development Advisory Committee (EDAC), including preparing agendas, minutes, reports, and annual work plans.

  • Develop, coordinate, and implement corporate communications strategies in collaboration with senior leadership.

  • Prepare and distribute press releases, public notices, newsletters, website content, and social media communications.

  • Coordinate media relations and respond to public and stakeholder inquiries.

  • Identify, prepare, and administer grant applications from provincial, federal, and private funding sources.

  • Support the operation and promotion of the Municipal Tourism Centre, including coordination of seasonal programming where required.

  • Potentially serve as the Municipality’s primary contact for emergency management planning and response in accordance with provincial legislation.

Compensation & Benefits:

 The Municipality offers a competitive salary based on education, experience, and qualifications. The annual salary ranges from $70,381 - $90,849 (Class 9).

Volunteer Opportunity: Economic Development Advisory Committee Vacancies

Are you passionate about local economic growth, business and resident attraction and retention, community development, and tourism promotion? The Municipality of Marmora and Lake is seeking to fill three (3) positions on the Economic Development Advisory Committee of Council, for the current Council term.

The Economic Development Advisory Committee (EDAC) advises on matters relating to the economic well-being of Marmora and Lake and makes recommendations to Council relating to the economic development of the Municipality. The Committee does not directly create new economic activity or jobs; its role is to provide suggestions to the Economic Development Department and Council, with an objective to positively influence the local business climate, facilitate economic growth, and provide insight into community and economic development issues and opportunities.

Some of the roles and activities of the EDAC include:

  1. Advising on matters related to economic development policy, strategy, and implementation plans through recommendations to Council.

  2. Contributing and providing feedback on economic development programs and initiatives.

  3. Acting as ambassadors profiling economic opportunities in Marmora and Lake.

  4. Reviewing Community Improvement Plan (CIP) funding applications.

  5. Providing a voice for businesses related to municipal policies, initiatives, and programs put forward by staff that may have identified economic development impact.

The Committee meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 5:00 p.m., at the Marmora & Lake Public Library (with additional special meetings of the Committee, as required).
