Marmora and Lake - Council has awarded the tender to replace Marmora’s water tower.

At the February 19 meeting, council passed a motion to hire Hadovic Construction for the project at a cost of $2,075,000 plus HST.

Hadovic was the lowest of five bidders, with the highest bid coming in at $2.6 million plus HST, according to a report submitted by Greer Galloway Consulting Engineers.

This project is being partially funded by an Ontario Community Infrastructure Grant received by the municipality in the amount of $1,825,630. The remainder of the expenses - $489,875 - is being covered through the provincial Gas Tax Fund.

The new tower will stand nine metres taller than the current infrastructure, which has been in operation for more than 60 years and is in dire need of replacement. In order to accomodate the additional pressure to fill the tank, new distribution pumps will be installed at the water treatment centre. The project amount also accounts for 150 metres of new watermain and lot services along Hayes Street.
