Council establishing Roads Advisory Committee
Marmora and Lake - Council has made the decision to implement a Roads Advisory Committee as a committee of council.
Councillor Ron Derry made a notice of motion at the September 17 meeting of council to form the committee, suggesting Deputy Mayor Mike Stevens and Councillor Jason Carman along with himself be appointed as members. CAO Typhany Choinard and Clerk Tonia Bennett would also sit on the committee as non-voting members.
Councillor Derry’s motion was brought forth for discussion at the October 1 meeting.
Deputy Mayor Stevens commented about the intent of the committee, asking the Clerk if “responsibilities and parameters” for the committee would be set up prior to members being appointed. Stevens pointed out that his interpretation of the committee is that it’s meant to improve communication between council and the Roads Department and to review department documents.
Clerk Bennett confirmed that a terms of reference and code of conduct would be established as part of the formation of the committee. Once those documents are complete, the Appointment By-Law will be brought before council for approval.
Mayor Jan O’Neill suggested to council that it wait on appointing members until it had a chance to review the terms of reference and code of conduct. However Councillor Derry asked for the motion to remain.
Council voted in favour of passing the motion as-is.
