Council Hosts Inaugural Meeting

Marmora and Lake - Newly elected council was sworn in and held its inaugural meeting this past Tuesday, December 4.

More than 80 members of the community attended the meeting, which kicked off the next four-year term for council.

Clerk Tonia Bennett opened the meeting by swearing in Mayor Jan O’Neill, Deputy Mayor Mike Stevens and Councillors Jason Carman, Ron Derry and Bernie Donaldson.

Bennett also thanked the community for its support during the election.

“I would like to thank everyone who participated and assisted in the municipal election. I look forward to working with everyone over the next four years,” she said.

New Mayor Jan O’Neill welcomed everyone to the meeting and expressed her gratitude to the community for its support.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for attending this inaugural meeting today. It is an honour to be elected Mayor of Marmora and Lake. I sincerely thank you for your support during my campaign,” she said. “I would also like to congratulate elected council.”

During the meeting Mayor O’Neill appointed council members to committees and boards.

The Mayor will serve on County Council, Emergency Management, Crowe Valley Conservation and the Cemetery board.

Councillor Stevens was assigned as alternate for County Council and member of the Community Policing board, Personnel Committee and Environmental Advisory Committee.

Councillor Donaldson was elected to the Central Hastings Family Health Team board and Library board, while Councillor Carman will serve on the Economic Development/Tourism Advisory Committee and Councillor Derry will be a member of Quinte Conservation.

The next regular meeting of council will be on December 18, 2018 at 2 p.m. in council chambers.
