FILMING IN MARMORA

The Municipality of Marmora and Lake, a small town with big potential, welcomes inquiries for film production. From our charming main street, beautiful heritage homes and Municipal buildings, to our plethora of rivers, lakes, hiking trails and open spaces, film makers will find locations appropriate for a wide range of projects. Our Film Bylaw 2023-55 was created to assist film companies with the filming process in Marmora and Lake, and must be adhered to.

Marmora and Lake is registered with Ontario Creates as a filming location. If their digital library doesn’t provide what you are looking for, contact our staff to discuss your needs and vision. Filming Permit Application

If you are filming on public space of any kind (roadways, parks, parking lots, library, municipal building, etc.) a permit is required. Please complete and submit the Filming Event Permit Application, which can be found here. There is a $75.00 flat rate fee for each application, to be paid to the Municipality of Marmora and Lake. Keep in mind, your application must be submitted a minimum of 3 weeks prior to your proposed start date.


Road Occupancy Application

If you will be parking on Municipal property (including Municipal streets, parking lots and/or parks), you require a Temporary Road/Lane/Sidewalk Occupancy Permit. Please complete and submit the application, which can be found here. Please note, your application must be submitted a minimum of 10 business days prior to your proposed start date.


Production Company Checklist

Thank you for choosing Marmora! We are here to assist you with your project! Here are some helpful reminders when filming in Marmora and Lake:

Have you completed the Municipal Filming Permit Application form and included the appropriate fees?

  • If you are filming on public space of any kind (roadways, parks, parking lots, libraries, etc.) a permit is required (cost: $75.00 flat rate fee for circulation to Police, etc.)

  • $1,000.00 plus HST Administration Fee is required for each filming permit request.

  • NOTE: if you are filming on private property and not utilizing municipal property, (including all associated crew and vehicles), Filming Permits are not required.

Have you provided the Municipality with your security deposit cheque of $5,000.00?

  • If you plan on filming in Marmora multiple times in the same year, we will hold the deposit on file until the end of the year. Required 3 business days prior to filming.

Have you purchased insurance and forwarded us the most recent copy?

  • The Municipality of Marmora and Lake must be listed as additional insured on your Certificate of Insurance. Details to be included: The Corporation of the Municipality of Marmora and Lake, 12 Bursthall Street, Marmora, ON, K0K 2M0.

Do you require the Central Hastings Ontario Provincial Police (CHOPP)?

  • All costs associated with services provided by the Central Hastings OPP Service (such as Paid Duty Officers) are the responsibility of the Production Company.

Will you be using Special Effects (fireworks, simulated gunfire, etc.)?

  • Please contact our office early in your process to ensure we can arrange for the appropriate approvals and/or bylaw exemptions. Any work in residential areas that commences prior to 6 a.m. or after 11 p.m. will require an exemption from the Municipal Noise Bylaw 2022-09 and must be approved by Council.

Have you prepared and circulated a notice to all business owners and residents in the area you are filming?

  • For film projects impacting businesses and residential properties, public notices are required. Any work in residential areas that commences prior to 6 a.m. or after 11 p.m. will require an exemption from the Municipal Noise Bylaw 2022-09 and must be approved by Council. Delivery of notices must be done a minimum of 5 days prior to filming commencing and are the responsibility of the Production Company. All notices must be approved by the Municipality of Marmora and Lake prior to delivery.

Have you filled out the Temporary Road/Lane/Sidewalk Occupancy Application Permit Form? This is required anytime you will be utilizing parking on Municipal property (Municipal Streets, Parking Lots, and Parks).

  • The Production Company is responsible for monitoring the on-street and off-street parking spaces to ensure that they are clear of parked vehicles well in advance of filming and other associated production film area(s).

Helpful Information

Example Costs for a standard Filming Permit Application:

  • A Film Permit Application including a schedule of dates, times, and locations. Cost: $75.00

  • Application fee of $1,000.00 plus HST (HST Reg Number: 123583528RT) (for a total of $1,130.00 based on 13% tax)

  • $5,000.00 certified cheque as a Security Deposit for the Municipality to hold. This cheque will be held until the project has been completed and verified by Municipal Staff. Cheque is made out to The Corporation of the Municipality of Marmora and Lake.

Note: There may be additional costs associated with permits based on individual permit requirements, as noted above and may include parking spaces, rental fees, and municipal work (road closures, clean up, etc.).
