One (1) Economic Development Assistant

The Municipality of Marmora & Lake invites applications for a summer position with the Economic Development Department.

The successful applicant will be required to work at the Marmora and Lake Tourism Centre and report to the Community & Economic Development Officer.

Qualifications:

  • Able to work various weekdays & Saturday’s (5 days/30 hours per week, 6 hours per day).

  • Exceptional public relations skills.

  • A vast knowledge of tourism assets in Marmora and Lake, and its history.

  • Knowledge of local community.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Squarespace website platform.

  • Demonstrates professionalism while performing their duties.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Shows good judgment and the ability to multitask.

  • Represents the municipality in a positive, respectful manner.

  • Photography and videography skills an asset.

Duties will include:

  • Organizing and stocking tourism material.

  • Assisting visitors with locating information about local attractions.

  • Answering the phones.

  • Complete electronic payments for tourism merchandise purchased, record tourism merchandise sold.

  • Editing/updating municipal website (Economic Development section), and work on the draft Tourism website (Squarespace platforms).

  • Other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate is required to work from May 2024 to August 2024.

This position is being applied for under the Canada Summer Jobs Grant program which requires that the successful candidate is between the ages of 15 - 30 years old. Please note the availability of this position is subject to Municipal Council and funding approvals.

Employment Opportunity – Administrative Assistant & Communications

The Municipality of Marmora & Lake invites applications for a full-time Administrative Assistant & Communications position with the Transportation Services and Parks & Recreation Departments. The successful applicant will be required to work 37.5 hours per week at the Transportation Services Building at 70 O’Brien Street, Deloro, ON.

This role will support the day-to-day operations of the Manager of Transportation Services and Parks & Recreation.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Knowledge of local community;

  • Good customer services skills;

  • Excellent, accurate keyboarding skills;

  • Positive, professional, and enthusiastic demeanour;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

  • Advanced computer user.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performing reception duties including, but not limited to, receiving, and directing all incoming telephone calls and emails;

  • Assisting the manager with preparation/proofreading of various documents;

  • Basic handling of general office supplies;

  • Writing, editing, and managing content for the Municipal website, and social media accounts, including public notices and announcements;

  • Other related duties as requested and required.

The municipality offers a competitive salary and benefits package. Rate of pay as per the 2024 Salary Grid, at Class 7, is $53,133.00 - $63,253.00.

Four (4) Summer Labourers

The Municipality of Marmora & Lake invites applications for four (4) summer positions with the Transportation Services and Parks & Recreation Department. The successful applicants will be required to work as Labourers for Transportation/Public Works and report to the Manager of Transportation Services and Parks & Recreation. 

Required:

  • First Aid certification and WHMIS training.  

  • Work boots with both a protective toe cap and puncture resistant soles - green patch (all other safety equipment will be provided).

Assets:

  • Civil technology/engineering course.

  • CPR.

  • G license.

  • Knowledgeable in construction.

Duties will include:

  • Will join a Public Works Crew involved in general labour.

  • Road construction and maintenance.

  • Flagging.

  • Trimming.

  • Patching potholes.

  • Cutting grass.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates the ability to work effectively independently or with a small group to accomplish tasks within assigned timeframes and minimum supervision.

  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.

  • Shows good judgment and problem-solving skills.

  • Represents the Municipality in a positive, respectful manner at all times.

  • Competency within the meaning of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other pertinent legislation and municipal by-laws will also be required.
